Blue Ocean Strategy: An Enduring Success. - StratX

Posted by Philippe Latapie on Mar 19, 2015 5:00:00 AM

Since 2005, the ideas captured in Blue Ocean Strategy have inspired people all over the world. The book itself has become a global bestseller, selling a record 3.5 million copies in 45 languages. Business schools have embraced the approach and Blue Ocean Strategy is taught today in 1700 universities in over 100 countries. Across the world, many corporations and their leaders have applied Blue Ocean Strategy principles to stimulate creative thinking and drive growth.

At StratX, we have been privileged to partner with Professors Kim and Mauborgne. Together with the authors and other Blue Ocean Strategy experts, we created the Blue Ocean Strategy simulation. The idea of the simulation is to help teams discover, practice and deepen their understanding of Blue Ocean Strategy winning moves. The simulation allows them to do this in a risk-free, experiential and memorable way. Today, the simulation has been experienced by 400 INSEAD MBA graduates and thousands of students and executives worldwide as part of programs focused on entrepreneurship, strategy and innovation.

Companies have used the simulation as part of meetings, workshops or online challenges to reinforce a culture of innovation and drive cross-functional collaboration. The simulation experience has also helped to bring the right teams together and to create alignment before starting work on applying Blue Ocean Strategy to their business.

We have had a chance to witness firsthand the impact of Blue Ocean Strategy with our clients: the approach has inspired executives and cross functional managers at top companies in healthcare, consumer goods and business to business sectors alike. They have generated and implemented exciting new ideas. For many, it has also had a lasting impact on how they think about their business. For instance, colleagues will challenge each other to rethink an idea, deemed “too red”, until they find a solution that brings additional value and reflects true “blue ocean” thinking.
